The Benefits of CBN Oil

Why take CBN instead of CBD or another cannabinoid? This article discusses the benefits of CBN and where to buy discounted CBN

What Is CBN Oil?

CBN (Cannabinol) is one of many cannabinoids and terpenes extracted from the hemp plant. Examples of other cannabinoids are CBD, THC, CBG, CBC, and more. It can come in the form of oil, gummies, and others. Cannabinol rarely comes in pure form because it tends to work best when some of the other compounds are present. It is not considered to be psychoactive and has no known side effects.

The "entourage effect," an idea where the whole hemp plant and its many different medical compounds work more powerfully together than in an isolated way, is the reason CBN is not an isolate in pure form. The thought is that the other cannabinoids and terpenes work synergistically to improve the effects of CBN.

CBN vs CBD?

CBN and CBD both belong to the family of cannabinoids. These are extracted from the hemp plant along with terpenes. When THC degrades and oxidizes, it turns into CBN. Because of this, none of the strains of cannabis contain high levels of CBN.

Both CBN and CBD interact with the body's endocannabinoid system, an extensive system of receptors and chemical communications. The endocannabinoid system helps regulate mood, memory, learning, pain, immune system, and more.

Neither CBD nor CBN will make a person high. Only the THC of the hemp plant is considered to be psychoactive. Most CBD products will contain a small amount of THC and legally must keep the concentration below 0.3%. However, you can still test positive on a drug test. This is important to keep in mind if you are drug testing for work or for any other reason.

Many people use CBN because they report that it helps them sleep better and thought to have a sedating effect. The research on CBN as a sedative at this point is lacking and is mostly anecdotal.

Effects of CBN

Some users report CBN having a mild psychoactive effect. Pure cannabinol by itself is not considered sedating. But in combination with other cannabinoids and terpenes, cannabinol is reported to have a relaxing, sedating effect. The science backing up those claims is lacking. CBN is also considered to have an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effect and increase appetite.

What Are The Benefits of CBN Oil?

There is much less research on CBN than there is CBD, but below is a list of potential benefits of cannabinol that may be worth trying it for.

CBN for sleep

Users of CBN oil report that CBN helps them sleep. In many cases, it is used for insomnia. The research on cannabinol's effect as a sedative is currently weak. There was one study from 1975 that had 5 male participants. CBN has a lot of anecdotal evidence from users who use it to help them sleep. Whether or not it truly improves the quality of sleep remains to be determined.

CBN as an anti-inflammatory and for pain relief

Cannabinol is considered to work for pain relief. According to a study in the Journal of Neuroscience, CBN provides effective pain relief for issues such as arthritis, migraines, nerve damage, inflammation, and even burns. CBN works best in conjunction with CBD and THC.

Scientists are still trying to understand how CBN affects the immune system specifically. They have found that CBN can suppress certain overactive parts of the immune system. It seems to have positive effects with certain conditions such as psoriasis.

CBN as an anti-convulsant and anti-anxiety

CBN has been shown in studies to have anticonvulsant properties with few adverse effects. It can be used for those suffering from epilepsy. Antiepileptic drugs often have serious adverse effects so CBNs can work as an alternative.

CBN as an antibiotic

Along with its effects on the immune system, CBN appears to act as an antibiotic. In 2008, a study found CBN along with seven cannabinoids, including CBD, to fight MRSA. MRSA is a bacterial infection that is resistant to antibiotics.

CBN for glaucoma

Several studies have shown that CBN appears to be an effective treatment for glaucoma. CBN is in clinical trials and has been found to possibly be protective of specialized cells in the eye called retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). Cannabinol was found to be superior to both CBD and THC in these cases.

CBN for neuroprotection

Along with protecting cells in the eyes from increased intraocular pressure, several studies have shown that CBN, along with other cannabinoids, helps protect neuronal cells.

But cannabinol doesn't just protect cells of the nervous system, scientists are studying the role of CBN on neuronal stem cells in neurodegenerative disorders. There is a large concentration of endocannabinoid receptors in the brain and nervous system.

CBN for bone stem cell stimulation

There is some evidence that CBN can stimulate the production of new bone in cases of damage or injury. Other studies have shown that CBN may be of benefit in reversing bone loss. Because of this, it is of interest in cases of osteopenia, osteoporosis, and other applications of regenerative medicine.

CBN and fighting cancer and as an appetite stimulant

CBN is showing promise in fighting cancer and stimulating one's appetite. Both of these can be helpful to cancer patients who commonly struggle with both issues. Anything that can help fight cancer and stimulate the appetite could be a helpful part of treatment. CBN oil is considered safe and could be a powerful adjuvant to cancer treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions About CBN

Is CBN legal?

This depends on what country you live in. At the time of writing this, hemp-derived CBD products with less than 0.3% THC are legal federally in the United States but still illegal under some state laws. Make sure you understand what the laws are in your state so you don't run into trouble.

Cannabis-derived CBD products, on the other hand, are illegal federally but legal under some state laws, such as Colorado. This is not something you want to mess with. Be sure to check local legislation, especially if you have plans to travel out of your state.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved nonprescription CBD products, which may be inaccurately labeled.

Is CBN oil safe?

Yes, CBN oil is not considered to have any known harmful side effects to date.

Will CBN make you high?

CBN is not considered psychoactive, but it does not come in pure form. There are usually going to be other cannabinoids and terpenes in the oil, including some THC that could potentially make a sensitive person experience a mild high.

Will you fail a drug test if you take CBN?

CBN oil contains less than O.3% THC, but there is still THC in the product. If you are in a situation where you a regularly tested for work, athletics, or any other situation, then this may not be the right product to take because there is a chance you will test positive.
